I say this to every client I see.

It’s a question that’s so simple, it’s often overlooked.

Despite its simplicity, often when I ask it to clients they will struggle to answer directly. Some people will tell you a story about the problem, perfectly understandable, because you never get any briefing of how you’re supposed to act in a therapy session, and often go by the clichéd psychoanalysis sessions you see on television and film.

My sessions are not like that. Wherever possible (and that’s most of the time) I don’t need the ‘story’ surrounding the problem or issue, because my preference is for content-free processes.

Some people will give tell you precisely the opposite of what you ask for. Again, this is natural, because when you’re ‘inside’ of a problem, more often people will only be able to focus on the problem itself.

Sometimes, after some working with a client using Hypnotherapy, IEMT or even NLP, when you ask this question again the answer changes. Sometimes, but not always a client’s outlook or feelings about the problematic situation change fast. Caveat:Not always! People and their problems can be pretty complicated, although, judging by the marketing of a lot of ‘Magic wand mindset’ Hypnotherapists & Coaches it apparently isn’t! But I digress…

So, what’s the question?

Quite simply,

“What do you want?”

That’s all.

Try it.

Got a problem? Ask this question. and keep on asking it until you get solid, detailed answers. Don’t let yourself off by giving vague answers – I certainly don’t settle for vague answers in my Hypnotherapy Sessions, so neither should you with yourself.

In my next blog post I’ll tell you why. Until then have Faith, Adam Faith.
